Karate

Looking for something that balances self-defence, meditative traditional martial arts, and yet is an exciting sport? Then try UTS Karate-do classes! As the only martial art with a history of over 400 years at UTS, karate-do offers the most depth and variety and is more than just a sport or a set of fancy or dangerous techniques - it is practical and realistic.

We specialise in training you in self-defence, traditional martial arts techniques, forms and patterns (kata) as well as more modern sparring (kumite). With us you will learn as a beginner and can compete at inter-university with others at a similar skill level, or if you are a prior practitioner you can hone your skills and we can help develop you into an elite athlete and compete at state and national tournaments.

We focus on safe training methods, with a zero serious injury rate over the past 20 years. You are in the best of hands as our teachers are all accredited under the Australian National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) and are part of the Australian Karate Federation (AKF)

By training in karate-do, you will improve your body, your concentration (and likely your studies!) and your character, which will lead you to a happier life as part of our community!

For us, karate-do is a way of life, and you can start your journey with awesome people (us)!
