Intervarsity Sport


Wanting to compete against the best other universities have to offer? Represent your university at a competitive level and join Team UTS as part of one of our intervarsity teams at the Australian University Games, Eastern University Games, or Australian Championships.

UTS has a proud history of success in all Universities Games and Championships, after finishing 3rd overall in Australia in 2015 we stepped it up and finished 1st overall in 2016! We are pumped to go even better and win more sports in 2017!

How to Get Involved With Uni Games:
Trials are conducted for each sport a couple of months prior to the games. Trials are run by student managers and relevant sports clubs, you are often required to attend more than one trial to be eligible for selection. For more information on trials you can visit Fudge ( in the sports office (building 4) who will put you in touch with the relevant sports manager. You can trial for more than 1 sport but can only play 1 team sport and 1 individual sport at the games.

For Uni Championships:
Teams are not limited by numbers so anyone can get involved throughout the year by getting in contact via email or in person with Fudge from the UTS Sports Office (Building 4). Championship events are open to ALL skill levels from beginner to elite. Events include Distance Running Series, Rowing, T20 Cricket, Triathlon Series.

Eastern University Games

Where: Newcastle
When: 2nd-7th July, 2017

The Eastern University Games has been renowned for providing a friendly but competitive environment for student athletes from all over New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory. Recognised as the perfect opportunity for student athletes to compete in a participation based event against like-minded students from across the east region, the Games has built up a reputation as an event not to be missed, attracting over 2,700 competitors each year.

Australian University Games

The Australian University Games (AUG) has grown to be Australia's largest annual multi-sport events. Held each September/October, the Games is renowned for providing a competitive environment for university student athletes to compete against the best from all universities across Australia. AUGs is the flagship event on the national university sporting calendar. The Games has built up a reputation as a not to be missed, event attracting over 6,000 participants each year. Off the sporting field, an action-packed, week-long social program is conducted to complement the sporting activities and enhance the event experience for participants.

Snow Uni Games

Where: Thredbo
When: 27th - 31st of August

All the fun of Uni Games, just with added snow. Snow Sports this year will be contested in Thredbo with the games offering a variety of races entailing all disciplines of skiing, boarding, and cross country. Team UTS is looking to send 30 student athletes to compete with the cost including accommodation, race entry, lift pass, bib hire, and social pass.

Australian University Championships

Each year a number of events are hosted across each state with points earned totally to an overall champion University across each category. In 2017 the following sports will be contested as Championship event with Team UTS entering in each interstate event.

Distance Running
These championships involve a competitors in 3 categories of distance running 10km/21km/42km. Combined with popular runs in each state registered runners compete in the event after which their times are ranked against other runners from other universities. All entrants receive a free Team UTS Runners singlet.

Gold Coast 21km/42km – July 1st
Gold Coast 10km – July 2nd
Sydney 10km – July 9th
Sydney 21km/42km – Sept 17th
Melbourne 10k/21/42km – Oct 15th

 ACT on March 25th – A new breed of orienteering competition is coming to the championships. Set close to Canberra with a more urban feel it will be a lot of fun to get involved with the team. To get involved contact Fudge Atshan or visit the sports office.

The Rowing Championship is a prestigious event hosted to pit the best rowers from each university against each other over a week of competition. In 2017 the Championships will be held in the Gold Coast from the 24th – 30th September. To get involved contact the UTS Sports Office to be put in touch with the UTS Rowing Club who manage the team. Note you don’t have to be a member of the UTS rowing club to join the team but race experience is required.

UTS has a proud history of excellent individual and overall team results in the AUC Triathlon Championships. The competition is now in its’ 6th year and Team UTS is looking to once again take out the title. The championship sees the team competing interstate throughout the year and caters for everyone from first timers through to pro level athletes. To get involved contact Fudge Atshan.
