Top 5 Italian restaurants

(as recommended by the true Italians from UTS Italian Society)

From fine dining to casual eating in a classic pizzeria; this is our ultimate guide to Italian food in Sydney.

It is our belief that Italian food is the unofficial second cuisine of Sydney. Many of the city’s best restaurants have heavily influenced Italian menus, which means there are plenty of options to choose from. We have picked out our top 5 restaurants and our recommendations for each; there is something here for everyone!

1.Vapiano

Corner of King + York Streets, Sydney CBD

Located in the heart of the CBD on King Street, Vapiano provides excellent service and homemade Italian dishes cooked right in front of you. The restaurant has a selection of Australian wines that couple perfectly with their huge range of freshly made pasta and pizza. The menu doesn’t provide a set pasta dish because it is up to you to choose what kind of pasta you feel like.

Fun Fact: Within every Vapiano store is a live olive tree, used to symbolize the Mediterranean origins of the company and reflect their use of fresh produce.

Our recommendation: Pollo e Spinaci Pappardelle

2.Pappardelle Ristorante

217 Ramsay Street, Haberfield

Owned by a traditional Italian family, Pappardelle Ristorante in Haberfield provides great food in a cozy environment. Approved by Nonna, the restaurant makes fresh pasta and uses fresh ingredients sourced by local suppliers. This restaurant never disappoints, with their great portion sizes and variety of choice on the menu. If you love good service and great food, we would highly recommend this restaurant. A perfect spot for date night!

Our recommendation: Pollo Saltimbocca

3.Enzos Cucina

2-6 Campbell Street, Northmead

In a city where you can get pizza by the metre and deep-dish versions, you may ask yourself, is it still possible to stand out with slices of pizza?

The answer to this is in the affirmative, and Enzos Cucina in Northmead is doing that. Unlike most pizzerias, Enzo’s menu has a strong influence from southern Italy and provides the best woodfire pizza!

With locations across all of Sydney, you cannot go past this authentic cucina!

Our recommendation: Calabrese Pizza

4.Cucina Galileo

121-133 Prairie Vale Road, Bossley Park

Calling all seafood lovers, Cucina Galileo is for you!

Think affordable Italian food and this is the first restaurant that comes to mind. Located in Club Marconi, the home of the Italians, Cucina Galileo provides traditional, authentic Italian food and wine. With inspiration sourced from all of the diverse regions of Italy, this restaurant specializes in their Marinara dishes!

Our recommendation: Risotto Marinara

5.Pietro Italian Ristorante

41 Fourteenth Street, Warragamba

And our last recommendation is Pietro’s Italian Ristorante at Warragamba.

Taking just over an hour from our uni, this trip is worth it for the authentic Italian food served, plus the scenic views on the way are just gorgeous!

Like most of the restaurants, Pietro’s is a family run business that uses quality local ingredients and generational recipes to provide rich, wholesome Italian food with generous portion sizes. This restaurant is a go-to must and whilst it is out of the way, it is definitely worth it for the quality of food you get!

Our recommendation: Homemade pasta con Meat Balls
