We are devastated to hear about the Australian bushfires that have torn through our country and its disastrous impact on our bushland, wildlife and homes.

125 billion animals are feared to have been killed, 25 people have lost their lives, thousands upon thousands of people have been evacuated, almost 2000 homes have been burnt down, and countless volunteer firefighters have put their lives on hold to battle the fires and protect the country. This damage will take time, money, and resources to rebuild and we want to do all we can to support this.

UTS, with support from ActivateUTS will be hosting two fundraiser events on Friday 31 January:

Coffee for a Cause

7am – 7pm – The Terrace

The Terrace café will be donating all proceeds from coffees and hot drinks sold on Friday 31 January to our nominated charities. All you have to do is purchase a coffee on the day!

Bands Next Door

5pm – 11pm – The Loft

We’ve teamed up with 2SER to host a special Bands Next Door with live bands, a sausage sizzle, and drinks. The event is free to attend however you will have the opportunity to donate at the door, plus you can purchase beers and sausages throughout the night with all the proceeds going towards the nominated charities.

Foundation for Regional and Rural Renewal
FRRR makes grants to local not-for-profit groups for community-led projects that address the most pressing needs that emerge 12-18 months after a disaster event.

WIRES
WIRES is rescuing and caring for as many sick, injured and orphaned native animals as possible. In December, WIRES 1300 line received over 20,000 calls and volunteers attended over 3,300 rescues.

Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities
The aim of the Fire Relief Fund is to offer culturally sensitive and direct support to some of the First Nation communities that have been affected by the bushfires.

If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation, please visit the charities websites directly to donate.

UTS Bushfire Support
It’s important that you take care of yourself as the fire season continues and we encourage you to seek support where appropriate. UTS has developed the UTS Bushfire Support page to provide you with resources and information during this time. We strongly encourage you to access these resources if you have been affected by the bushfire crisis.
